Kristen and I met at an event hosted by Lancaster County Women for Good, a non-profit organization that gives grants to other county non-profits. Our conversation quickly centered on women and our struggle to find our voice in the midst of society’s pressures.
Kristen was intrigued by the concept of EmpowerHer portraits and how they can help us see ourselves in a new way. As women, we often neglect to acknowledge milestones we have achieved and celebrate the stories that have shaped the women we have become.

Italian Roots and a path to dual citizenship
For this set we included several personal pieces that belonged to Kristen’s grandparents—a painting by her Grandmother and her Grandfather’s favorite book on Michelangelo. You’ll also notice important documents embedded in the images that are part of the citizenship journey.

As the 2024 Mrs. Lancaster Pennsylvania and runner-up for Mrs. Pennsylvania, Kristen is actively involved in the ongoing work to educate and gainfully employ underserved individuals, both here and abroad.

An editorial take on a lifelong learning disability
Learning disabilities are obstacles. For Kristen, who struggled with audio-visual perceptual impairment, dyslexia, and ADD from an early age, it became a catalyst to help others who are non-traditional learners and marginalized persons become successful in life.
