In 2020, as the pandemic shifted work and life for everyone, photographer Heike Martin wanted to challenge herself. She connected with women for whom one sport stood out, either as a professional calling or hobby, with a desire to capture them actively pursuing it.
After speaking with and photographing her first subject, Heike knew that a gallery exhibit of these photos wouldn’t adequately capture the stories behind the images. Thus, she began to envision a new outcome: a coffee-table book.
The result is OWNING OUR GAME, a beautiful book highlighting the paths of each woman, their connection to their sport, and what athleticism at any level or age means to them.

About Heike
Heike Martin has been taking pictures since she was sixteen years old. She is a headshot and lifestyle branding photographer based in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Drawing on 17 years of fair trade marketing experience, Heike’s photography centers storytelling, joy, and a celebration of unfiltered truth.
Heike regularly speaks about photography and branding—in her trademark German accent—for networking groups, panels, and podcasts.
